Miss Indiana 2011 is…. Jackie Jerlecki. Those few words have changed my life forever. That evening was a complete blur that I only remember from a few recordings I have watched. I remember falling to my knees but don’t really recollect how I got up. I hugged all of the girls around me and finally made my way to Gabrielle for my crown. While she hugged me she whispered in my ear “Don’t forget to soak this all in.” While I looked around I saw the many faces in the crowd who have made a huge impact in my life, and my new directors whom I was about to embark on this incredible journey with. My parents found their way to the ramp where I began my first walk as Miss Indiana 2011. With tears streaming I knelt down to give my Mom a hug. The fact that she had missed other crowning moments, leading roles and accomplishments didn’t matter, because she was there to share THIS moment with me. As I “gracefully” stood I finally realized everyone in the auditorium was standing….. for me. I knew my amazing year had begun. The 30 girls standing behind me are a true inspiration to continually work hard knowing that all of them would love to be in my ‘heels.’ I absolutely adore each and every one of them and have felt an indescribable amount of support from these girls. I will hold them dear to my heart and am excited to share this year with them as much as I can! I will work everyday to promote this organization and its volunteers who have been so selfless in giving of themselves to watch young women achieve their dreams. Being Miss Indiana is my dream come true.
